Word from the Ambassador Rashid Mairza Al-Mulla

In the Name of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful

I am pleased to give the readers a brief overview of the history and nature of the Cuban-Cuban relations. These relations began in 1989, based on the close friendship between the leaders of the two countries at that time, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro Ruz. These relations are based on the links between the two countries on the basis of the significant and solid ties during 22 years. The two current leaders of the countries, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, and His Excellency President Raul Castro Ruz, have been keen to continue with strengthening these relations with great enthusiasm. These relations continue to progress, renew well in various fields, including health,  culture, education, economic, political and social fields. It is at a distinct stage right now, based on a smooth political dialogue of mutual respect and on a solid legal basis. In this context, the two sides are working to deepen these ties and relations to the highest levels, for the good of the two countries and their peoples.

The State of Qatar and the Republic of Cuba are working hard to preserve the bilateral political relationship and maintain coordination in international forums. The two countprories share a common position on many issues of the international agenda. The Government and the people of Cuba recognize the  pioneering role of the state of Qatar in dealing with various regional and international issues. With the vision of His Highness the Amir to participate in all international issues and contribute to finding positive solutions to them.

I can confirm the good track of the valuable relations between the two countries in various field, like the economic, investment, trade, cultural and other fields where the prospects of trade and investment cooperation between the two countries are positive, as the two countries seek to develop economic ties more effectively in sectors of interest to the parties such as health, tourism and investment.

In the economic and investment fields, the history of economic cooperation between the two countries has been rooted for many years. The sector that has achieved the greatest success so far is the medical sector, where many Cuban doctors have provided services in Dukhan Hospital for years. Currently, there are more than 400 doctors and experts who work in the Cuban hospital here, and as the Cuban media once called it an "icon of cooperation" in the region.

There are many other opportunities and areas for the development and promotion of this cooperation and investment in the Cuban economy, especially in the new phase of Cuba. Tourism and investment are generally seen as sectors that provide possibilities for joint investment projects. Today, Cuba attracts more than 3 million tourists. The sector is one of the main sources of income for the island, with its favorable climate, attractive beaches, colonial architecture and cultural history, is an attractive destination for tourists.

I am pleased to highlight the role played by the Mission to develop economic and commercial cooperation and to strengthen contacts between businessmen and companies in the State of Qatar and the Republic of Cuba. As we follow the scene and ensure good investment, we seek to facilitate and enhance contacts between the two parties and open the doors in Cuba, so as to assist the Qatari businessmen and companies here.
