General Information


Havana:

It is a city that rooted deep in the history, a picturesque city, where the blend of old buildings, which belong to the colonial era with the landscape of the surrounding charming colors. One can enjoy walking on the Malecon Sea walkway, which is parallel to the coast of the ocean. One can also visit the Old Havana Cathedral de San Cristobal, or listen to salsa music bands concerts held outdoor in the bazaars held outdoor and music street show, which will last until the morning.

The society:   

Cuban society is witnessing great changes at the present time. This process has begun in the nineties, after the collapse of the Soviet bloc, and the subordination of the US siege of the island, and the need of the country to enter the global capitalist market. Culture and heritage:

Cuba is the meeting point between the Spanish and African civilization and culture, since the arrival of  the slaves to the island, where Christian tradition mixed with African religious cult. This can be seen obviously in the blending of ethnic elements, and many aspects of life, such as customs, music and cuisine.

Cuba is characterized by high culture represented in all kinds of arts, such as singing, dancing, theater, cinema and fine arts.

The Government system:

The government system is socialist communist regime (democratic socialist republic, popular and unionist) that depends on the collective ownership of the major means of production and the unity of the national political and social forces under the leadership of the Cuban Communist Party.

The most important organs of the State as follows:

1. The National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament).

2. The Council of State: the executive organ of the Parliament headed by President of the Republic and the President's first deputy and five other deputies.

3. Council of Ministers: his President is the Head of the State Council.

The current president: His Excellency General Raul Castro Ruz.
