For the first time, the United Nations General Assembly is preparing to celebrate September 9 as the first International Day to Protect Education from Attack, an initiative of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser (may God protect her) - the founder and president of the Education Above All Foundation.
This day comes at a time when the world is facing unprecedented health crises, in addition to armed conflicts, forced displacement, climate change and natural disasters, which have disrupted the education of 75 million children and youth globally.
This date is an opportunity to come together to protect education so that no one is left behind. It will witness a high-level event to mark this occasion, hosted by the permanent delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, in cooperation with UNESCO, UNICEF and Education Above All.
This important international event will be inaugurated by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser (may God protect her), His Excellency Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, in addition to a number of distinguished personalities in Education Field.
