The State of Qatar participates in the virtual ministerial meeting of the Least Developed Countries in New York.

The State of Qatar participated in the virtual ministerial meeting of the "Least Developed Countries", held during the seventy-fifth session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The State of Qatar was represented by His Excellency Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

His Excellency referred to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, which, he said, affects the Least Developed Countries particularly.

He highlighted the announcement made by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani "may God protect him" of the contribution of the State of Qatar's of 100 million US dollars to support the Least Developed Countries and Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States to face the problems of the climate change.

He said that Qatar Fund for Development is developing a mechanism in order to respond to the challenges related to climate change through a 10-year strategy aimed at supporting these countries in achieving the ambitious goals of the Paris Agreement and their efforts in the field of sustainable development.

His Excellency also referred to the significant progress made in the Istanbul Program of Action for the Least Developed Countries for the Decade 2011-2020, which constitutes an important framework for overcoming these challenges.
