The embassy organized an evironmental awareness day with the Student of Manuel Bisbel Albernie school in Havana

In the framework of the celebrations of the National Day of the State of Qatar, the Embassy in Havana organized an environmental awareness-raising, artistic activity at its quarter on Thursday, 14/12/2017, in cooperation with Cubanos en La Red, coinciding with the conclusion of the Climate Summit at Paris last week. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education, Her Excellency Margerita McPherson, HE Ambassador Roberto Blanco, Acting Director of the Department of Middle East and North Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as a large number of ambassadors and heads of missions of the United Nations agencies and representatives of the Cuban Ministry of Culture.                            

The Cuban artist, Osemil Francis and his band, presented a musical performance that reflects the importance of environmental development and the importance of preserving it. The activities also include plantation of small trees in the Garden of the embassy, together with a distinguished group of students of “Manuel Bisbe Albernie” School in Havana.

The Cuban artist mentioned the interest of the State of Qatar in the issues of the environment and its achievement/ struggle to combat drought and desertification. He referred to the desertification summit in Doha under the patronage of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his initiative to establish the World Alliance Against Drought; which was created as an international organization to confront The consequences of food insecurity and the negative environmental and economic impacts of climate change.

The Cuban media (Havana TV, Cubavision TV, Prensa Latina News Agency, Radio Reloj Trabajadores newspaper and Orbe Newspaper) broadcasted the news of the activity during the past two days extensively, In which they highlighted the  importance of activity as a means of educating young generations to respect and preserve the environment. The media stressed that the planting of trees at the embassy is a symbolic gesture intended to reach this purpose.
