The Qatari medical delegation, headed by Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Thani, Director of Public Health Department, Ministry of Public Health, participated in the Third International Medical Conference in the Cuban Capital Havana, entitled "International Health for Sustainable Development" held from 23 to 27 April 2018. Mr. Mohammed Amer Al Marri, Assistant Executive Director of Business and Staff Services of the Cuban Hospital- Hamad Medical Corporation, also participated in the conference.
The conference, attended by a large number of international health organizations, coincided with the week of vaccination in Latin American countries attended by the Secretary-General of the World Health Organization. The conference is attended by 56 international delegations from 83 countries, most of whom are ministers of health and high level officials. The event was also inaugurated by the new Cuban President, Miguel Diaz Canel.
The intensive conference program includes special lectures, seminars, workshops, more than 60 expert hubs, 25 round tables, and specialized meetings and discussions.
The Qatari delegation participated in all these activities. There were also received by the Director General of Cuban Medical Services, Ms. Gillian Jiménez Exposito. The two sides discussed the expansion of Cuban medical services in the country and the draft agreement between the State of Qatar and the Republic of Cuba on primary care to benefit from Cuba's distinctive experience In this area. They also discussed the functioning of the Cuban hospital in Dukhan city.
The Cuban Minister of Public Health, HE Roberto Morales Ojeda, also held a courtesy meeting with the Qatari medical delegation. The meeting discussed bilateral relations and means of developing them, particularly in the medical sector, and the contribution of the Republic of Cuba to the provision of medical services to the State of Qatar.
