The second round of political consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar and the Republic of Cuba was held in the capital Havana on Monday, 30/4/2018. The Qatari delegation was headed by His Excellency the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, while the Cuban side was headed by First Deputy Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina.  The meeting was attended by Qatari Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba Mr. Rashid Mairza Al Mulla, the Director of the American Department of Foreign Affairs, HE Zayed bin Rashid Al Nuaimi. From the Cuban delegation the meeting was attended by the Foreign Ministry Director-General for Bilateral Affairs, Mr. Armando Bergara, the director of the Department of North Africa and the Middle East, Mr. Hector Cabrera Aagarza.

The program of the visit included meetings at the Cuban Foreign Ministry with the Deputy Minister of External Relations, Mr. Marcelino Medina Gonzalez, to hold a round of political consultations between the two countries. The following points were discussed:

• Consideration of multilateral issues of common concern to the two countries, such as those of Latin America and the Caribbean, the situation in Venezuela for instant, and the developments in the Middle East and a number of international issues, such as disarmament and climate change.

• Discuss bilateral relations, such as the positions of the two countries in international political affairs.

• Ways of developing cooperation between the two countries in various fields, such as health sector, investment in tourism, agreements among them in aspects like sports and culture.

A courtesy meeting was also held with HE Mr. Bruno Rodriguez.

The Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister held a luncheon in honor of the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and his accompanying delegation.

The First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, HE Mr.Antonio Carricate, also received the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, to discuss the aspects of Qatari investments in the Republic of Cuba.

In the evening, Ambassador Rashid Mirza Al Mulla hosted a dinner in honor of both members of the Qatari and the Cuban delegations in his residence.
