The Embassy participated in the ceremony of the honorary doctorate awarded to the historian of the city of Havana

The Embassy participated on Thursday, February 14, 2019, in the ceremony of the honorary doctorate awarded to the historian of the city of Havana, Dr. Eusebio Leal, presented by Dr. Isabel Allende, Director of the Higher Institute of International Relations of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The ceremony was attended by President Miguel Diaz Canel, President of the Council of State and Ministers, and all Cuban Ministers. A large number of heads of missions and diplomatic corps accredited in Cuba also attended, as well as officials of political, academic and cultural institutions, and a large number of students of the Higher Institute of International Relations.

Dr. Leal gave a speech on the history of Cuba and the most important historical figures that influenced his personal, professional and academic life, especially the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, with whom he had a close friendship.

Dr. Leal is credited with restoring the city of Havana and all the ancient cities of Cuba. The Fidel Castro government established its heritage institution known as the City Historian's Office, which has branches throughout the island. He is a prominent figure in academic affairs related to heritage, history and culture.
