Doha, March 5 (Prensa Latina) Qatar is the fifth-largest country in the world in health, according to the Legatum Institute 2018, the Singapore-led index, followed by Luxembourg, Japan and Switzerland.

Among the factors for obtaining this position are the increase in life expectancy, quality of health services, access to health care, government investment in health infrastructure.

According to the media, HE Dr. Hanan Mohammed al-Kuwari, Minister of Public Health, said that six new public hospitals have been opened, more than 1,000 beds have been provided, and four health care and wellness centers have been opened.

"This arrangement also highlights our focus on areas that have a positive impact on people's lives, such as cancer, diabetes and quitting smoking," she said.

It also noted that the opening of new facilities, together with the expansion of existing services, was part of the long-term plan established in the National Health Strategy 2018-2022.

"We have made real and significant changes in the way the health system works, and replacing people's help to stay healthy from focusing on treating the symptoms of the disease.

A decade after its establishment, the Legatum Index is studying 149 countries, amidst a variety of criteria: economy, business environment, health, education, governance, personal freedom, security, social justice and the environment.

Qatar ranked 46th in the overall ranking of the index of prosperity, which it has occupied since 2007, while the country is characterized by the best performance of health and economic status.

According to the same source, the biggest positive change in Qatar is in education, which has risen sevenfold compared to 2017.
