Tehran, January 12 / QNA / His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, extended his gratitude to His Excellency the Iranian President, and to the Iranian government and people for the reception accorded to him during his visit to Tehran, in the joint press statements that HH made with His Excellency the President Dr. Hassan Rouhani, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, stressing that the meeting with His Excellency the President was good and fruitful, and highlighted the distinguished historical relations between the two countries and ways of developing them. HH the Amir indicated that the visit comes at a sensitive time the region is going through, where HH agreed with HE the president of Iran that dialogue is the only solution to the region's crises. At the end of his statement, HH the Amir stated that he had extended an invitation to HE President of Iranian to visit the State of Qatar, which His Excellency promised to do sometime soon.

His Excellency Ambassador Abdulla bin Mohammed Al-Derbasti participated in the political-cultural ceremony held by the Embassy of the State of Palestine in Cuba and the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Palestinian revolution and the beginning of the armed struggle under the slogan (for the sake of self-determination and the right of the Palestinian people to the independent state and the return of refugees), in the capital, Havana, on January 10, 2020, at the headquarters of the Arab Union in Cuba.

The Embassy of the State of Qatar in Havana celebrated the National Day, in the presence of a number of Cuban officials, headed by the Cuban Minister of Public Health, the Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister and members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Havana.

His Excellency Ambassador Abdulla Bin Mohamed Al-Derbasti, met with His Excellency Mr. Andrew Brent Dean, Ambassador of commonwealth Bahamas, in a courtesy visit, on Tuesday December 17th 2019. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.

His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the country, may God protect him, delivered, on Saturday December 14th, a speech on the occasion of the opening of the Doha Forum 2019, which is being held under the slogan "Governance in a multipolar world”. As following are the most important points that were mentioned: The world is better with the end of the two camps’ system and the Cold War, and we can talk about the Millennium Development Goals and sustainable development. Some visions in our world today gave way to the law of force rather than the power of law, and double standards prevailed. Solutions should be sought, especially in our region. Multipolarity should be in the interest of international relations, not power struggles. We must all work to find solutions to the problems of climate, poverty, immigration and asylum, hold war criminals accountable, and make join efforts to combat extremism and terrorism. For this purpose, we created platforms like the Doha Forum and the Interfaith Dialogue Conference. Doha hosted this year many international conferences aimed at addressing these issues, and financial contributions were allocated by non-profit organizations and state institutions to address these challenges, including the education of children in conflict areas. It is precisely for this purpose that I am pleased today to begin a new tradition in honoring an international figure in this forum, as we honor dear brother His Excellency Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, Prime Minister of Malaysia.

The Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a celebration at its headquarters on December 13, 2019, to present a new postage stamp representing the symbols of the two countries, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the relations between the two friendly countries, the State of Qatar and the Republic of Cuba, on December 13th 2019, in the headquarter of the Ministry. the State of Qatar in the Republic of Cuba, Mr. Abdulla bin Mohammed Al-Derbasti, and the Deputy Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Mrs. Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo, and the Director General of the Cuban Post Company, Mr. Carlos Asensio, in the presence of the foreign ambassadors accredited to Havana. The postal design represents traditional symbols of both countries which share a mutual interest in sport and equestrian activities, such as Cuban equestrian sport, known as "rodeo", which is practiced in rural areas, and archery shooting, arrow and bow, which is a popular sport in Qatar.

Prensa Latina newspaper published a report on the history of the Cuban-Qatari relations, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its founding, by Susan Alfonso Tamayo, on December 12th, where it indicated that they are distinguished relations and that they were based on the ties and good friendship and brotherhood between His Highness the Emir Prince Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem Al Thani, may God protect him and revolutionary leader Fidel Castro. She said that Qatar was the first Gulf country to open an embassy in Havana. The newspaper pointed out, according to the statements of the Cuban Ambassador to Qatar, Mr. Eumelio Caballero, the exchanges of visits between the two leaders. Ambassador Caballero said that the two countries are willing to develop economic relations, as he indicated the visit of the Cuban delegation to the State of Qatar last September, and that this aims to implement many projects between the two countries. Mr. Eumelio Caballero also mentioned that the Cuban Hospital in the city of Dukhan is the best proof of the strength of these relations, as it represents the most important areas of cooperation between the two countries. The Cuban Ambassador spoke about the celebrations in the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations in Doha and Havana.
